The move comes as Siemens seeks to position its charging business for accelerated growth in what it describes as a “fast-growing and dynamic” market. The company had previously consolidated its eMobility charging activities in 2018 before organizing them into a separate business unit in 2022.

“The new setup of eMobility will enable the business to accelerate profitability by focusing on high potential business segments and strategically relevant geographies,” said Matthias Rebellius, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO of Smart Infrastructure. “It will have more freedom to define its focus areas based on business strengths.”

According to Rebellius, the restructuring is aligned with broader environmental goals: “Building up charging infrastructure for electric vehicles is crucial to achieving the electrification of transport, a central piece in the aspiration to reach Net Zero by 2050.”

Business Details

The eMobility unit currently offers:

  • IoT-enabled hardware, software and services
  • AC and DC charging capabilities from 11 kW to 1 megawatt
  • Production and R&D sites in Germany, Portugal, the United States, India and the Netherlands

The company reports that it has made strategic investments to build technological leadership and strengthen its product portfolio. The recent acquisition of Heliox, a specialist in DC fast charging solutions for eBus and eTruck fleets, has expanded Siemens’ market presence in Europe and North America while enhancing its power electronics capabilities.

Strategic Rationale

Siemens indicates that the carve-out is designed to:

  • Provide greater entrepreneurial freedom
  • Enable more agile operations in a dynamic market
  • Position the business to pursue additional partnerships
  • Allow for more focused and efficient market operations

The company states that this new structure will combine Siemens’ experience and innovation with what it terms the “pioneering culture” of Heliox.

The announcement did not include specific timeline details for the completion of the carve-out process.
