As reported in sister title Motor Transport, XPO has rolled out HVO and electric-powered trucks in its 4PL and transport control tower operations, describing it as “an industry first”.
The alternatively-fuelled vehicles were deployed following a trial across test routes totalling nearly 3,000 miles in the UK and Ireland and XPO said this showed emissions reduced by over 4,000kgCO2e.
Paul Hayes, XPO’s director of asset light solutions, said: “Sustainability is an important strategic pillar for all our customers, and together, we are exploring options to accelerate the supply chain’s decarbonisation.
“This unique deployment and implementation of alternative fuel technologies in our 4PL operation is a leap forward for our customers on their sustainability journey.”
Dan Myers, XPO Logistics UK and Ireland MD, added: “It is hugely satisfying to see the expansion of alternative fuels as we continue our journey as a leader in sustainability.”
XPO recently announced it had added another 30 longer semi-trailers to its fleet to boost environmental performance and help cut carbon from its clients’ supply chains.
