Two eActros 600 electric trucks are rewriting the rules of long-haul transport, demonstrating that battery-powered freight vehicles are ready for Europe’s diverse landscapes and climates.

Since departing Frankfurt am Main on 11 June 2024, the two eActros 600 near-series-production prototypes have traversed 18 countries, covering an impressive 10,697km to reach Tarifa, Spain - Europe’s southernmost point.

Dr. Christof Weber, Head of Global Testing at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, emphasised the tour’s significance: “The tour so far has shown us that battery-powered long-haul transport is already possible in Europe today. The two eActros 600 prototypes have proven to be extremely reliable companions – in demanding landscapes as well as in wind, rain or outside temperatures above 30ºC.”

  • Consistent 500km range on a single charge, aligning with Mercedes-Benz’s specifications
  • Successful operation at 40-ton gross combination mass
  • Exclusive use of public Charging infrastructure, with one charging stop per day

The extensive road test has also highlighted infrastructure challenges, particularly in southern Europe where some charging stations required unhitching the semi-trailer for access. This real-world testing provides valuable insights for both Mercedes-Benz and potential customers as the eActros 600 approaches series production later this year.

Powered by a high-capacity 600 kWh battery and featuring an in-house developed efficient electric drive axle, the eActros 600 is designed to meet the demanding requirements of long-distance trucking.

The ongoing tour, which will conclude in Germany by July’s end after travelling through Portugal, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, aims to serve as a comprehensive test of the truck’s capabilities across varied European topographies and climate zones, which the manufacturer intends to share the findings of with interested parties.
