The MAN hTGX, a heavy-duty truck with a hydrogen combustion engine, has been awarded the 2025 Truck Innovation Award. The award was presented to Alexander Vlaskamp, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus, at the IAA Transportation Press Day in Hanover by the International Truck of the Year (IToY) journalists.
Gianenrico Griffini, chairman of the International Truck of the Year, said: “MAN’s hTGX opens a new chapter in decarbonising road transport. It can be the vehicle of choice for heavy-duty applications, such as in the construction sector, in challenging climatic conditions.”
The Truck Innovation Award, established by the IToY jury, recognises advancements in transport solutions. The jury consists of 25 commercial vehicle editors and journalists from Europe and South Africa.
The MAN hTGX received 84 votes, surpassing entries from Renault Trucks and Iveco, and marks the third time MAN Truck & Bus has received this award, following previous wins in 2019 and 2023 for different projects.
During a road test in Saalfelden, Austria, IToY journalists evaluated the hTGX’s performance, which is powered by MAN’s 16.8-litre H4576 in-line six spark-ignition hydrogen engine.
The jury noted the truck’s range of approximately 600 km, provided by 56-kilo 700 bar hydrogen pressurised tanks, and its simplified after-treatment system.
