American truck manufacturer Mack Trucks and Kriete Truck Centers delivered a Mack MD Electric vehicle to ABC Supply Co., Inc. in Beloit, Wisconsin. This is the first electric medium-duty truck in ABC Supply’s fleet and the first Mack MD Electric to operate in the state.
ABC Supply, a distributor of roofing and building products, ordered the MD Electric to test the integration of electric trucks into their operations. The company plans to use the vehicle for transporting roofing and other building materials across its branch network in North America.
Mike Boggs, vice president of branch operations at ABC Supply, stated that the addition of the electric truck represents the company’s interest in exploring new technologies. ABC Supply chose Mack for this initiative due to their existing relationship and the reliability of Mack vehicles.
The Mack MD Electric is available in Class 6 and Class 7 configurations, with gross vehicle weight rRatings of 25,995 pounds and 33,000 pounds respectively. It features a 260 horsepower electric motor powered by lithium-ion batteries rated at 240kWh.
Produced at Mack’s facility in Salem, Virginia, the MD Electric is designed for medium-duty applications and can be used for various vocations including dry van/refrigerated, stake/flatbed, and dump truck operations. The Class 6 model does not require a Commercial Driver’s License for non-hazardous payloads.
Mack dealers, many of which are certified for electric vehicles, will provide support for the MD Electric. Kriete Truck Centers, with 10 locations in Wisconsin, will service and support ABC Supply’s vehicle.
Both Mack Trucks and ABC Supply view this as an opportunity to evaluate the performance and integration of electric vehicles in fleet operations.
