French green hydrogen producer Lhyfe and hydrogen truck retrofitter KEYOU have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on hydrogen mobility projects in Germany, beginning in the Baden-Württemberg region.
Lhyfe is constructing a Hydrogen production facility in Schwäbisch Gmünd near Stuttgart, scheduled for completion by the end of 2024. The facility will have a production capacity of 4 tonnes of green hydrogen daily, with a 10 MW installed capacity. The company has secured a 15-year renewable electricity supply agreement with EDP Renewables for the site.
KEYOU, which develops retrofit hydrogen combustion engines, plans to deploy up to 100 trucks in the region between 2026 and 2030, implementing 20 vehicles annually. The estimated hydrogen consumption for these vehicles is 1,000 tonnes per year. The company makes technology to convert diesel trucks to hydrogen and offers maintenance, insurance, and fuel services.
“Hydrogen mobility will only make a real difference if the hydrogen used is green. At KEYOU, we want to deploy our truck fleets in regions where green hydrogen is available to our customers,” said Pedro Bravo, Chief Sales Officer of KEYOU.#
Earlier in September, Lhyfe announced plans to supply hydrogen to four h2 Mobility Deutschland filling stations over five years starting in 2025, including locations in Mannheim and Heidelberg. The company will also supply hydrogen to the H2-Aspen industrial park and a Jet H2 (MINT) filling station.
“This agreement with KEYOU completes the implementation of a comprehensive hydrogen mobility offer in Germany, and more specifically in Baden-Württemberg,” said Luc Graré, Head of Central & Eastern Europe at Lhyfe.
KEYOU will utilise Lhyfe’s digital platform, Lhyfe Heroes, to display its vehicle catalogue. The partnership aims to develop local infrastructure for hydrogen production, distribution, and heavy-duty vehicle operation.
