Cardiff-based freight decarbonisation specialist FSEW has reached a significant environmental milestone, transforming its entire 40-strong fleet to be diesel-free well ahead of its original 2025 target.
FSEW has accomplished its environmental milestone through a strategic combination of five electric Volvo Trucks and 35 compressed natural gas (CNG) Iveco S-Way vehicles.
Managing Director Geoff Tomlinson expressed pride in the achievement: “I’m incredibly proud of every member of our team at FSEW who have worked together to make this happen.”
Since introducing alternative-fuelled vehicles in March 2022, the company has completed over 8.5 million miles, including 284,214 electric vehicle miles and 6,564,841 CNG miles.
The journey towards a diesel-free fleet has been marked by significant investments, including the recent acquisition of two additional Volvo FM Electric 4x2 tractor units. These electric trucks, powered by three electrical motors generating 666 hp and equipped with six batteries, have already impressed the company’s drivers.
“Volvo’s electric technology has exceeded our expectations,” Tomlinson noted. “The reliability and performance of these vehicles proved key in our ongoing decarbonisation ambitions.”
The four new CNG Iveco S-Way trucks, running on 100% biomethane, completed the company’s transition.
Tomlinson highlighted the broader impact, emphasising that one of their main routes passes four schools, and cleaning up road transportation is crucial for future generations.
Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Wentloog, Cardiff, FSEW operates an all-arctic fleet with a mix of 4x2 and 6x2 tractor units. The company serves a range of clients including Tesco, Candy Group, Ford, Eurocald, Blackwood Engineering, and Rockwool.
With this latest milestone, FSEW has effectively removed over 8.5 million diesel miles from UK roads, demonstrating a committed approach to sustainable freight transportation.
