Vlot Logistics has made history by becoming the first company in the Netherlands to integrate a fully electric EcoCombi into its fleet. The company’s innovative addition is the DAF CF Electric rigid combination, which includes a dolly and semi-trailer equipped with an electrically driven HIAB hook arm, alongside a 23-tonne/metre crane.
Vlot Logistics aims to be at the forefront of innovation and the utilisation of “zero-emission” trucks. Currently, the company possesses 10 electrically driven trucks in its fleet, with the newly added DAF CF Electric EcoCombi, boasting a total length of 25.25 metres. Rokus Vlot, Managing Director and Owner of Vlot Logistics, explains, “We utilise this combination for container transport. With the EcoCombi, we can efficiently transport three 20-foot containers simultaneously, contributing to reduced journeys. It’s a win-win situation for both the climate and traffic congestion.”
Vlot emphasises electric transport is an integral part of its operations. The drivers have become accustomed to operating these vehicles, and the company has adjusted its schedules to optimise the range of 200 to 250 kilometres and effectively manage the trucks’ battery charging times.
To support its electric fleet, Vlot Logistics has established its own high-powered 300kW DC charging station in Rotterdam. This station can charge the battery pack of the DAF CF Electric up to 80% capacity within one hour. Notably, a significant portion of the power used is generated by solar panels installed on the roofs of the company’s premises, Rokus Vlot explains, “it’s the perfect circle!”
