The Volvo electric truck will operate from Fuller’s Griffin Brewery, established in 1845, delivering Asahi’s range of beers, ales, and ciders to pubs across London. This addition aligns with Asahi’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality in its operations.

Sam Goodenough, Sustainability Manager at Asahi UK, stated: “We’re thrilled to partner with Volvo Trucks as we take delivery of our first electric brewery dray truck, a significant milestone in our journey towards our goal of Net Zero across our whole value chain by 2040.”

He continued: ”Our FE Electric will be one of the first of its kind to enter London, demonstrating the potential of electric drays to create quieter streets, support the city’s clean air initiatives and build a more sustainable future for the communities we serve. Working with Volvo on this project helps us to ensure we can continue to deliver our premium products to London’s pubs in a way that supports both our business and the planet.”

The FE Electric, supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus South & East, replaces a similar diesel vehicle and will follow the same weekday operating schedule. It features a 5,250 mm wheelbase and three batteries, providing a driving range of up to 230 km. The truck is equipped with two electric motors and a two-speed transmission.

The vehicle includes Bevan Group bodywork, a cantilever tail lift, and meets London’s three-star Direct Vision Standard requirements. It also incorporates several safety features, including Forward Collision Warning with emergency braking and Lane Keeping Support.

The FE Electric comes with a Volvo Gold Contract for maintenance and repairs, including monitoring of batteries and related components. Asahi UK plans to use the truck in its distribution fleet for the next seven years.
