The Greek cities of Athens and Thessaloniki have ordered 89 FUSO eCanter electric trucks equipped with specialised waste collection bodies from KAOUSSIS. These vehicles are designed for urban waste collection, particularly organic waste, in metropolitan areas.
The trucks feature rotating drum compaction technology and are expected to be deployed starting November, with the full delivery completed over the course of next year. The ordered vehicles have a medium battery pack with a capacity of 82.6 kWh and a range of up to 140 km.
Florian Schulz, Head of Sales, Marketing and Customer Services at Fuso Europe, commented on the suitability of the eCanter for urban waste collection: “Thanks to its compact dimensions and high chassis load-bearing capacity, the electric eCanter is ideally suited for waste disposal companies that operate in narrow streets. In addition, the vehicle is locally emission-free and quiet, making it possible to collect refuse in the early morning in densely populated areas. This makes it particularly suitable for municipal applications.”
The KAOUSSIS truck body includes several features designed for efficient waste collection:
- A 4m3 capacity rotating drum for waste compaction
- An aluminum acoustic hood for noise reduction
- A hydraulic system designed for electric vehicles
- A Terberg lift system compatible with 80 to 390-liter waste bins
- RFID technology and a dynamic weighing system
- An integrated container washing system
Dimitris Kaoussis, Head of Production at KAOUSSIS, said: “It is particularly important to us to make waste collection CO2-neutral and emission-free. With the FUSO eCanter as the basis, we benefit from the vehicle’s high bodybuilder friendliness as well as its excellent maneuverability.”
The vehicles comply with the EN 1501 standard for refuse collection vehicles, including safety features such as automatically retracting footboards and a touchscreen monitoring system in the driver’s cab.
Antonios Evangeloulis, Sales & Marketing Director of Star Automotive Hellas, the Greek distributor for Daimler Truck products, highlighted the collaboration with KAOUSSIS: “We have been working very closely with KAOUSSIS for over 30 years. I am particularly pleased that the vehicles, which we have worked on together for more than a year, will be driving through Athens and Thessaloniki as of November.”
Star Automotive Hellas has also invested in authorising two of its workshops in Athens and Thessaloniki for the repair and maintenance of the eCanter, ensuring after-sales support for these vehicles.
