TUAL, a company specialising in electric commercial vehicle charging solutions, has announced a new ’swappable power bank’ product aimed at addressing range limitations for electric HGVs.

The TUAL PowerBank is available in 120kWh and 180kWh configurations and can reportedly be exchanged in under five minutes. According to TUAL, this system could extend an eHGV’s range by up to 120 miles, depending on the application.

“The transition to electric heavy goods vehicles is essential for achieving our environmental targets, but they are handicapped by limited range,” said Philip Clarke, CEO and Founder of TUAL. ”This impacts the use-cases and routes they can operate on, as the current charging infrastructure is simply not scaled for HGVs. Our swappable PowerBanks are designed to bridge this gap, providing a reliable and flexible solution that keeps eHGV fleets on the move.”

The PowerBank system is described as modular and scalable, with TUAL claiming it can be integrated into existing eHGV platforms. The company states that this technology allows haulage fleet operators to maintain operations without relying on public charging infrastructure.

TUAL suggests that their PowerBank system could help fleet operators manage the transition to electric vehicles while public charging networks are still developing. The company also claims that by using these swappable powerbanks, fleets can operate independently of existing grid infrastructure.
