Nikola Corporation has announced that the transition of battery manufacturing from Cypress, California, to its Coolidge, Arizona facility is expected to be complete by April 2023, several months ahead of the original schedule. This move supports Nikola’s commitment to bring its truck assembly, fuel cell power module assembly, and battery module and pack production under one roof, as part of its cost-saving measures. The company has also invested in battery line automation aimed at improving quality and efficiency.
Michael Lohscheller, President and CEO of Nikola Corporation, expressed his satisfaction with the speed of the plan’s implementation, saying, “Over the past several months, the Nikola team has been working to ensure the battery production transition plan was seamless and on schedule… We are pleased with the speed in which the plan has occurred and are grateful for the Cypress team’s contribution.”
While battery manufacturing operations move from Cypress to Coolidge, a separate facility in California will continue to focus on developing Nikola’s next-generation battery management system software and modules.
Nikola Corporation completed the acquisition of Romeo Power on October 14, 2022, and announced the plan to transition battery manufacturing to Coolidge, Arizona, on January 13, 2023.
