Nikola Corporation has announced record sales of its hydrogen-powered Class 8 trucks for the third quarter of 2024 to customers in North America.

The zero emission vehicle manufacturer and energy solutions provider (via the HYLA brand) wholesaled 88 Class 8 Nikola hydrogen fuel cell trucks during Q3 2024, firmly within truck sales guidance of between 80 and 100 fuel cell units for the quarter.

For the year to date, Nikola has wholesaled 200 hydrogen fuel cell trucks, and 235 in total since the truck first went on sale at the end of 2023.

“This is a record sales quarter for Nikola, with 88 hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks wholesaled to our dealers for end customers, as well as the addition of a first-ever U.S. dealer-based HYLA modular refueling station,” said Nikola CEO Steve Girsky.

He added: “Despite overall market headwinds, Nikola remains focused on our mission to pioneer solutions for a zero emission world, and we’re doing it one truck at a time.”

In July, Walmart Canada became the first major retailer in the country to incorporate a Nikola hydrogen fuel cell electric semi-truck into its fleet.

The Nikola hydrogen fuel cell ev Class 8 tractor, with a range of approximately 800 km, produces zero tailpipe emissions and is estimated to save 97 tonnes of co2 emissions annually, according to the manufacturer.
