Lion Electric has announced the final certification for its heavy-duty battery pack, the LionBattery HD. This lithium-ion battery pack is specifically designed for the company’s heavy-duty trucks.
The certification was achieved through extensive testing conducted in collaboration with third-party partners. The LionBattery HD pack now meets stringent criteria and safety regulations in the automotive industry.
The 105 kWh battery packs will power the Lion8 Tractor, an all-electric Class 8 commercial truck unveiled at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Las Vegas.
Previously, in December 2023, Lion announced the certification of its medium-duty battery pack, the LionBattery MD, designed for the company’s medium-duty trucks and school buses.
“At Lion, we are dedicated to advancing innovation in the transportation electrification landscape,” said Marc Bedard, CEO-Founder of Lion. “The development of the LionBattery HD for heavy-duty trucks highlights our commitment to excellence, reliability, and safety. With these major battery development milestones achieved, we will now focus on optimizing the integration of both the LionBattery MD and HD packs into our vehicles to enhance production efficiency.”
Both the LionBattery HD and MD packs are manufactured at Lion’s battery production facility, which has an annual manufacturing capacity of 1.7 GWh.
