Barcelona has selected Renault to supply electric trucks for municipal rubbish collection and maintenance. This contract was granted in batches to a number of waste management subcontractors that share the city’s environmental aspirations. CLD Sorigué, Urbaser, and Valoriza (Sacyr Group) have chosen Renault Vehicles to supply 73 totally electric trucks that will start work in Barcelona.
With the purchase of 73 Renault Trucks electric vehicles for cleaning and garbage collection from CLD Sorigué, Urbaser, and Valoriza, the Catalan capital is claiming improvements to quality of life through silent, emissions-free collection while establishing itself as a decarbonisation model for other European cities.
Renault Trucks was able to provide the appropriate answer to this public tender due to the breadth of its electric range and environmental knowledge. Renault Trucks E-Tech D, D Wide, and D Wide LEC can be equipped with a wide range of body designs to meet the needs of municipalities, including rear loaders (single and dual-compartment), side loaders (right and left), sweeper-sprayer tankers, tipper and crane trucks, lifting hooks, and low-entry cabs.
These all-electric trucks will be supplied in groups for phased adoption, which will include a training session to teach operators about electric technology and driving tactics. The first set of vehicles, which included rear loaders, sweeper-sprayers, and a tipper, was delivered and is now at work on the city’s streets.
