Roof-mounted solar panels should save the Eurocell fleet nine tonnes of CO² per year
Eurocell, the UK’s top PVC-U maker and recycler, has modernised a portion of its fleet with the introduction six MAN 7.5-tonne trucks equipped with solar panels. The new vehicles are fitted with TRAILAR solar mats attached to the roof and will generate sufficient power for the tail-lift and other on-board requirements. The company expects the new device to save 3,500 litre of fuel across the fleet.
As orignally reported in Motor Transport, the vehicles were supplied by Asset Alliance Group, and the Derbyshire-based firm has signed a five-year full-service contract hire agreement. They will be located at the Selby facility and will be used for PVC-U trash collection and recycling across the country.
Simon Bird, Asset Alliance national account manager, said: “Eurocell were running with a mixture of rental vehicles previously, so this was an opportunity for them to upgrade and benefit from better fuel consumption, smart solar transport technology and sleeper cabs. As a business with a major focus on sustainability, these high-spec vehicles will help reduce Eurocell’s impact on the environment and enable the team to run its operations more efficiently.”
