The Livingston station is designed to refuel up to 14 trucks simultaneously, with a capacity to serve over 600 trucks daily. Its annual capacity is estimated at 20 million kilograms of Bio-CNG. The station will be the second public access renewable biomethane HGV refueling station in Scotland, following the Bellshill site that opened in 2021.

Philip Fjeld, CEO of ReFuels, said: “The Livingston station is next door to several major distribution centres, including Tesco and DHL. Once operational, it will enable fleet operators and their clients to further decarbonise logistics in Scotland. Bio-CNG is a low-carbon alternative to traditional fossil fuels and more cost-effective than diesel.”

ReFuels currently operates 14 stations across the UK, capable of refueling more than 9,500 HGVs daily. The company reports that this capacity could potentially save over 800,000 tonnes of co2 emissions annually compared to diesel use. ReFuels aims to have 30-40 stations in operation by the end of 2026.

The Livingston station is owned by a joint venture with Foresight Group. ReFuels is also constructing another station in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
