Contargo, a trimodal container transport service provider in Germany, is set to expand its electric truck fleet with the help of Rhenus Trucking and SBRS. Rhenus Trucking, a leading provider of transportation services, has awarded the biggest single contract for private charging infrastructure in Germany to SBRS, a top supplier of electric charging technology. In 2023, Rhenus Trucking will deliver 28 electric trucks to Contargo, and in the same year, SBRS will install 33 charging points at 14 Contargo locations across the country.
The project has received funding from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport through the funding guidelines for commercial vehicles with alternative, climate-friendly drivetrains and the deployment of refuelling and charging infrastructure. The funding is coordinated by NOW GmbH, the National Organisation Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology, and applications are approved by the Federal Logistics and Mobility Office (BALM).
With the installation of these charging points, Contargo will be able to expand its electric truck fleet from seven to 33 in the coming months. The charging points, each with a 250kW output, will be located in cities such as Duisburg, Voerde-Emmelsum, Emmerich, Frankfurt-Ost, Industriepark Frankfurt-Höchst, Gustavsburg, Hamburg, Karlsruhe, Koblenz, Ludwigshafen, Mannheim, Neuss, Weil am Rhein, and Wörth.
This project demonstrates a commitment to sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint of the transportation industry. The use of electric trucks and the installation of charging points will not only benefit the environment but also improve the efficiency of the transportation sector.
