Charging systems manufacturer ChargePoint Holdings has introduced a new Level 2 commercial electric vehicle charger priced at $699. The CPF50 charger is designed to provide a lower-cost entry point for businesses looking to electrify their fleets.
The new charging unit can be equipped with either J1772 or NACS connectors and integrates with ChargePoint’s fleet management software platform. The software provides features including real-time monitoring of vehicle readiness, power usage tracking, and station access control.
“ChargePoint has always been committed to making it easy for everyone to go electric, whether they be a driver, a business, or a fleet,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint. “With our lowest cost charger for commercial vehicles we have a solution that makes charging more accessible for small businesses who want to electrify their fleet, or for large fleets that are focused on reducing Total Cost of Ownership.”
Multiple CPF50 units can be networked together to enable power sharing through cloud-based management, which the company says can help reduce charging costs and optimise battery health.
The launch comes as commercial electric vehicles are beginning to enter the market in greater numbers across light, medium, and heavy-duty segments in North America and Europe. Transportation currently accounts for approximately 30% of direct greenhouse gas emissions in the United States.
ChargePoint also noted its development of Megawatt charging capabilities for heavy-duty vehicles, which the company states could deliver energy at up to 20 times the speed of existing DC chargers for passenger vehicles, potentially allowing long-haul trucks to recharge in under an hour.
The CPF50 charger is available now as part of ChargePoint’s commercial charging product portfolio.
