Cardiff-based freight forwarder, FSEW, has completed its fleet overhaul with six new Iveco S-Way CNG trucks. The new arrivals replace four diesel vehicles, the last diesels to feature in the company’s fleet. Over the past three years, FSEW has been replacing its diesel trucks with a mixture of CNG and battery electric trucks.

MD Goeff Tomlinson, said: “We took on the mission of decarbonising our fleet after I read in a newspaper that Cardiff was the fourth-most polluted city in the UK - that was a wake-up call for me. We started decarbonising our fleet in March 2022, and I’m very happy that we’ve now reached our target.”

FSEW operates a fleet of 40 HGVs, 35 of which are Iveco S-Way CNG trucks. On average, the S-Ways clock up more than 110,000 miles a year and reduce the CO2 emissions by up to 95% compared to their diesel predecessors. The company’s first CNG truck was deployed in 2022 and since then the gas fleet has travelled 6.7 million miles on the fuel. This equates to CO2 emissions savings of around 8,500 tonnes. The other trucks on FSEW’s fleet include five eHGVs with four Volvo FM Electric 4x2 tractor units delivered in 2024.

Tomlinson added: “We run 35 of these trucks for a reason. They’re comfortable, reliable, and the CNG engine produces power on par with its diesel counterparts. We have a CNG refuelling station a stone’s throw from our depot, so it really is a no-brainer for us to keep using these trucks.”

Mike Cutts, full range director at IVECO UK said: “This is exactly what the IVECO S-Way Natural Gas was designed for. The engine produces diesel-comparable power, whilst offering a huge reduction in CO2, while retaining all of the driver comforts synonymous with the IVECO S-Way range. Decarbonising an entire fleet is an ambitious target, and we offer a huge congratulations to FSEW for reaching its goal.”
