The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) has launched a free emissions calculator to support operators in understanding their fleet’s well-to-wheel (WTW) CO2 emissions. Developed with TfL and Zemo Partnership, the calculator uses information on vehicle type, fuel type, number of vehicles and typical mileage to create an emissions estimate.
The new resource has been created to align with FORS Standard requirements. The calculator provides emissions data needed for Silver S2 accreditation which requires a performance data report as well as Gold G3 accreditation which requires a Decarbonisation strategy. Operators can also use the tool to support Scope 1, 2 or 3 emissions reporting to comply with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
Higher levels of accuracy can be achieved by inputting more detailed information on the fleet. The platform has the capacity to calculate emissions based on second fuel types for dual-fuel vehicles such as plug-in hybrids. In association with the Renewable Fuels Assurance Scheme, operators can also input data on the use of renewable fuels such as biodiesel, renewable diesel, biomethane – compressed or liquified – and renewable hydrogen.
Taking the data provided by the operator, the emissions calculator works out estimated tailpipe emissions, tailpipe particulates and WTW emissions. These figures are combined to form comparable data that can be used to track progress and adherence to decarbonisation targets. With this tool, operators will be able to identify the environmental impact of their fleet and identify areas where potential emissions reductions can be made.
FORS concession director, Geraint Davies, said: “Our aim with the FORS emissions calculator is to empower and encourage fleet operators to take a proactive approach to emissions reduction. The tool not only serves as an innovative solution to help operators reduce their Carbon footprint, it also plays a significant role in ensuring they stay on track towards their Net Zero targets.”
