Rightech, a new truck brand launched by Wrightbus, has announced it is launching a new 7.5-tonne truck for the UK and Europe.
The new 7.5-tonner, built by JAC in China and rebadged Rightech for the UK and European markets, is available with a choice of two wheelbases (3845mm and 4475mm), and will be equipped with a 100kWh battery, capable of a claimed range of 144 miles between charges. The shorter wheelbase version weighs in at 3320kg, which is about 600kg heavier than a diesel equivalent.
A smaller 4.25t version of the vehicle will be added to the range later this year.
The new truck will be supported by a Wrightbus warranty, service and maintenance package. Rightech has also announced a service agreement with Sapphire for the UK, adding 14 regional workshops to the existing three operated by Wrightbus – Ballymena, Bicester and Warwick.
Speaking at the launch, Jo Bamford the Founder and Chairman of HydraB, the parent company of Wrightbus, said Rightech would help accelerate the decarbonisation plans for all transport and fleet operators: “Given the very tangible effects of Climate Change on our planet there’s simply no time to waste,” he said. “Each one of my businesses is focused on energy transition, from vehicles, Hydrogen and sustainable fuels through to supply, distribution and infrastructure. But operators need to act now with affordable solutions in front of them.”
With a price tag of £51,525 for the new Rightech 7.5-tonne battery electric chassis-cab, the company has demonstrated a price point significantly lower than any other zero emission truck currently on the market and pitches the vehicle closer to a diesel equivalent than any other truck builder has, so far, indicated.
